My favorite is cilantro. I have heard some people have a gene that makes it taste like soap to them, but it’s just the bestest to me! I almost always have some in the fridge, and have tried to grow them, but not much luck there… It is extremely common in Vietnamese cuisine, and goes sooo well with tomatoes. And because it’s almost always present in a Vietnamese meal that consists of several dishes (that are meant to be used like topping on rice), it smells like home-cooked food to me. I smelled it every day growing up in Saigon, and I imagine that it’s the equivalent of American kids smelling fresh-baked cookies when they come home from school, or the smell of pine at Christmas.

Cardamom makes me feel warm and cozy.

Well, I’ve got to say black pepper because if I had to pick one spice to use forever, it would be that. Other spices I really enjoy are coriander and sumac.

Basil. It can shine in rich, savory sauces, sweet dishes even chiffonnade over tart berries with a lil cream… Point is, IF I could ONLY pick one, it’d be Basil.
